Toasters and towels?  Bridal showers aren't just about kitchen and bath items anymore.  And, they often aren't just for the bride anymore.  Themed bridal showers and couples-themed showers are increasingly becoming a fun and hot new trend.

From unique couples-themed showers to the tried and true "room of the house" shower,  here are just a few bridal shower themes to consider.

Couples-Themed Showers
1.  Backyard BBQ - Host a backyard barbecue for the couple and ask guests to bring items for backyard entertaining from shish kebob skewers and tiki torches to volleyball sets and patio lights.  Guests could even pool resources to purchase an outdoor patio table and chairs with a screened in gazebo.  Then host the party with the new gifts!
2.

Wine & Cheese / Stock the Bar -  Host a wine and cheese party and have guests bring gifts such as a corkscrew, martini glasses, a wine rack or a nice bottle of wine.
3. Happy Honeymooning - Choose gifts based on the couple's honeymoon destination or travel related items such as matching beach towels that the couple can use on their honeymoon.
4. Honeymoon at Home - If the couple isn't taking a honeymoon right away, guests can bring items to enhance a honeymoon at home - candles, lingerie, romantic mood music like Barry White's greatest hits, etc.
5. Entertainment Shower - Gifts can include tickets to the movies or sporting events, dvds and or/a dvd player, gift cards to the local movie rental store, etc.

7. Home Improvement - This is a great themed party for couples who may already own a home or who have been married before and have all the kitchen/bath items they need.  Guests can bring home improvement items &/or gift cards to a local home improvement store such as Home Depot.  Does the couple have a room in their home with wallpaper that makes them crazy?  Guests can arrive for a room makeover party - paint or remove wallpaper, etc... Then, toast the finished product with takeout food and your favorite beverages of choice.
8.
Kiss the Cook
If the couple loves to cook, host a dinner or fondue party for the couple and ask guests to bring gifts that center around food - cooking utensils, aprons, gourmet cookware, cookbooks, herbs and spices, etc.
9. Health & Fitness - If the couple loves exercise and the outdoors how about a camping trip with friends.  Gifts can range from exercise equipment to a parasailing gift certificate.
10. At the Beach - A fun theme for a couples shower can focus on a day at the beach.  Fishing, or volleyball on the beach, can be followed up with dinner on the beach.  Many oceanfront towns in South Jersey have restaurants that deliver to the beach. Guests bring gifts with a beach  or outdoor theme - fishing gear, sunscreen, portable radio, frisbees, beach towels, salt water taffy, etc.
