Wedding bouquets come in many styles and are most often categorized by their shape.  One of the latest trends is towards the "clutch" bouquet - a simple, yet elegant design with little or no greenery, hand-tied with a beautiful ribbon.

When choosing the flowers for your bouquet and your bridal party keep in mind the style and colors of the dresses.  In fact, bring a picture and, if possible, a fabric swatch from your dress and your bridesmaids' dresses when you visit any florist to discuss your wedding flowers.

To help you get started, here is a guide to some of the popular styles of wedding bouquets.

Arm Bouquet or Spray
The arm bouquet or spray is usually triangular or crescent-shaped and designed to be carried in the crook of your arm.  In a spray, flowers and greenery are usually combined to form a triangular shaped bouquet.

Basket Bouquet
Flowers carried in a basket, along with white hats, were quite trendy in the 70's.  While you don't see many basket bouquets in the bridal magazines these days, the basket bouquet may still work for the bride planning an outdoor garden wedding. The basket bouquet, however, still works well for a flower girl!

Cascade Bouquet
The cascade bouquet features flowers which gracefully fall to a point in a triangular or teardrop shape.  While the cascade bouquet can be quite spectacular it can also be overpowering on a petite bride or depending on your style of gown.  If in doubt, ask the opinion of your floral designer!

Clutch or
Hand-Tied Bouquet

One of the more popular choices, this bouquet usually consists of one type of flower with little or no greenery, elegantly hand-tied with ribbon.  The bouquet is held by the stems of the flowers.

Heart Bouquet
A heart shaped bouquet -
well, it's just that, shaped like a heart!

Nosegay Bouquet
Round in shape, the nosegay is smaller than your typical round bouquet and consists of a tightly clustered group of smaller flowers.  Wildflower & herbal nosegays are also becoming popular - particularly lavender - which usually comes into season in this area in mid-to-late June through July.

Pomander Bouquet
This bouquet is a ball of flowers which is worn from the wrist or hand-held by a ribbon.  While quite trendy in the last few years, they can be quite beautiful for the bride who wants something a little different.  I'd worry about it banging into the dress all the time, smashing the flowers...but then I'm no Princess Grace...

Round Bouquet
Larger than a nosegay, which is also round in shape, the round bouquet is typically contained in a holder and often consists of  large flowers, such as roses, paired with delicate, smaller flowers such as baby's breath or stephanotis and some greenery.

The Wand or Single Stem
A single stem rose, gerbera daisy or calla lily can often look quite stunning depending on your dress-style.
