Sandals Jamaica: White House European Village and Spa

By Megan Harris

Imagine strolling hand in hand with your sweetie making your way toward the cool mist coming off the Carribean when your met with a candlelit, rose pedaled table for two. A waiter greets you and invites you to sit. There on the beach you enjoy an array of succulent cuisine , and toast your new life together with champagne. You can sit and talk as long as you like. There’s no one else waiting for this table. No need to signal for the check. When your ready, simply stand and walk away.

This is just one of the ways your honeymoon can be tailor made to the exact measure of romance you desire at Sandals White House European Village and Spa.

Sandals White House stands alone, sequestered on Jamaica’s southern coast, away from any other resort. The three European villages that make up the resort, modeled after French, Dutch, and Italian villages, make their home in the midst of a five hundred acre nature reserve, with a two-mile stretch of white sandy beaches. The resorts boasts three swimming pools, including the largest in Jamaica and every room has an ocean view.

Sandals White House is essentially a couples -only resort , no kids allowed. The mood is set for a perfect honeymoon, all you have to do is show up.

No need to fumble with your wallet or spoil a romantic dinner by trying to figure out the tip, its already taken care of. Sandals is all-inclusive, which means everything from your transportation to and from the airport, meals, drinks and in some instances personal butler service, is included in the cost of your stay. Of course if you want to pay extra for certain amenities you can.

Weddingmoons

Your honeymoon can begin right after the kiss. If you stay six nights or longer in a concierge category suite or higher, your wedding is included in the cost of your stay. The free wedding package includes a personal wedding consultant, preparation of documentation, certified copy of marriage license,

caribbean wedding cake, marriage officiant, champagne & hors d'oeuvres reception, honeymoon dinner for bride and groom, continental breakfast in bed, bouquet and boutonniere, and government / administrative fees.

You can also opt for one of the exclusive Preston Bailey packages, ranging from $1,700 - $5,000 or the Twilight Package which includes pedicure for bride & half hour massage for groom, bouquet of nine fresh roses (bride’s selection of red, white or pink), single entertainer for one hour, reception for two under the stars, chef’s selection of Caribbean inspired hors d’oeuvres for bride, groom and two guests, champagne and two keepsake champagne toasting flutes, a two-tiered wedding cake and several other amenities.

Weather

Temperatures in Jamaica range from 80-90 degrees, with lows sometimes in the mid 70’s. July and August are the hottest months, and February tends to be the coolest. Rainy months are May and June, then again in October and November. Hurricane season starts on June 1 and continues through November, but direct hits to Jamaica are very rare. Still, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the weather in the days leading up to your trip.

Even when it rains, showers usually last only part of the day, followed by Sunshine and warm temps. One honeymoon couple we talked to had rain the first several days of their trip. They testified that the weather did not impede their fun. They said, "We snorkeled in the rain, swam in the rain. The pool bartender made us laugh in the rain. The only thing we missed was the tan."

Activities

Activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, water skiing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking are included, as well as golf, tennis, and nightly themed entertainment (check out the Sandals website for the extensive list of what’s included in your stay and what you can choose to pay extra for).

You can go for a ride on a glass-bottom boat, go windsurfing, ride a hydro bike.

Play a game of squash or workout together at the fitness center. Or just sit by the pool sipping a cool drink and working on that tan.

Take a wine-tasting class and become a wine connoisseur .

If your unsure what’s happening around the resort, simply check your itinerary, which arrives at your suite each evening reporting the next day’s events, including private weddings that will take place at the resort.

Optional tours include horseback riding, river tubing, nature walks and more.

Dining

There are seven different gourmet restaurants from which to choose. Some honeymoon couples have been known to eat an early dinner at one restaurant, then have a second meal later at a different locale.

Sample Asian cuisine at Jasmines, or try the flavors of Italy at Guiseppes. Be sure to experience the Colonial atmosphere and authentic Carribean cuisine at Eleanors. If your in the mood for a sweet treat and a cup of coffee, stop in at Café de Paris.

For a slightly more casual feel, try the Bluefield Beach Club’s Jamaican jerk chicken or the Arizona beach club’s Tex-Mex cuisine.

Most restaurants require evening attire or "casual elegance" for dinner.

Nightlife

There’s something to do every night. Themes include formal night, Reggae night, Carnival night, and Casino night. The resort also hosts live shows, live bands and

a talent show (themed after American Idol) where guests and resort employees participate,

Shopping

There’s plenty of shopping on the premises and for a fee you can also enjoy concierge-escorted shopping (duty free) in nearby towns.

What to pack

You’ll probably be on the beach or in the pool every day, so bring more than one bathing suit.

Evening wear for dining, underwater camera, sunscreen (it’s expensive to buy in Jamaica), and insect repellent. Scuba and snorkel equipment are provided through the resort, so leave it home and save some room for souvenirs.

Also, there’s a tremendous temptation to eat too much, so it might be a good idea to bring some sort of antacid.

Test Drive

If after reading all about SandalsWhite House, you’re interested but still not sure it’s the honeymoon destination you’ve always dreamed of, you can "test drive" your honeymoon. For a few hundred dollars (which will be used as a down payment for your honeymoon should you decide to book it) you can fly air Jamaica and spend an entire day swimming, enjoying complimentary drinkg, and touring the resort. Plus enter contests to win great prizes such as wedding rings, the services of a personal trainer to help you get in shape for the big day, free vacations, and wedding planning services.
