Think the beach is out of reach?
Many a bride longs to be whisked away on a romantic
tropical honeymoon. And when thinking "where to"
after the wedding, it’s common to conjure up the Caribbean.
Nothing drives travelers to this corner of the world more
consistently than romance.
But could you do without lengthy flights, an international
monetary system, and strict entry requirements (i.e. springing
for passports)? No passport, no problem! Don’t overlook our
own US Territory in the Caribbean – the US Virgin Islands!
In as little as four hours nonstop from New York/Newark you
can arrive on these unique and beautiful islands, a top
destination brimming with refreshing water activities,
invigorating golf and stirring nightlife. Right in our own
backyard! And passports are not required for U.S. citizens,
making the U.S. Virgin Islands an affordable and convenient
vacation choice!
Each of the three major islands - St. Croix, St. John and
St. Thomas - offer distinctly different adventures and all are
sure to please. Coral reefs, wildlife and nature preserves,
parasailing, windsurfing, golf, and bike tours - whatever your
honeymoon holds for you, the U.S. Virgin Islands have it. So
what are you waiting for?
To make it even easier on your wallet, the USVI’s annual
Sizzlin’ Sampler promotion offers one complimentary night
with any five-night stay, and certificates totaling
$150 to be received upon check-in. Book by June 15 for travel
through Sept. 30, 2012.
So if you are still thinking, why visit the USVI? Here it
is – the top 10 on why you ought:
-
The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas – Why not start at
the top with five stars? Luxury is not lost here, including
top service to match its premier sea views overlooking the
Caribbean. Activities run the gamut from world-class diving
and snorkeling, spice-infused body treatments and massages
in an open-air cabana, or golf at the Mahogany Run course
– the island's only 18-hole championship course.

Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas
-
Marriott Frenchman’s Reef & Morning Star Beach
Resort – Fresh from its 48 million dollar
renovation, this star really shines. Situated on a cliff
overlooking the harbor, the 478 completely updated guest rooms
and suites offer two resorts in one, from water view rooms at
Frenchman’s Reef or garden and beachfront rooms at Morning
Star – with free shuttle service in between. The infinity
edge signature pools and swim-up bar feature a stunning view
of the island.
-
Bolongo Bay Beach Resort – this casual property
has been a lively choice for the true spirit of the Caribbean.
Small, family-owned and operated Bolongo Bay has been putting
the focus on fun for decades. Choose from all-inclusive or
European vacation packages (no meals), complimentary use of
sailboards, sailboats, windsurfers, kayaks, tennis courts and
a discover scuba lesson. Dine at two delightful restaurants,
including Iggie's Beach Bar and Grille, voted the 'best bar in
the Caribbean' by readers of Caribbean Travel & Life.

-
Sugar Bay Resort & Spa – This is the former
Wyndham perched mountainside surrounded by breathtaking views
of the Caribbean Sea and neighboring islands. Guests enjoy a
secluded beach with an array of watersports including
snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking; three interconnecting
freshwater pools with a waterfall and grotto; mini-golf,
tennis complex; onsite spa; state-of-the-art fitness center
offering aerobic and yoga classes and more.

-
The Westin St. John Resort & Villas – This
world-class resort is a 47-acre paradise set along a cove of
white sand beach, nestled into the green hillside overlooking
Great Cruz Bay. Just minutes from the pristine Virgin Islands
National Park, the resort is grand in terms of seclusion and
abundant activity. If you want an upscale base from which to
explore the beaches and parks, this is a great option on St.
John.
-
Caneel Bay St. John, A Rosewood Resort – This
AAA Four-Diamond winner is set on 170 acres within the heart
of the Virgin Islands National Park, reachable by ferry from
St. Thomas. For secluded beaches (even the appropriately named
Honeymoon Beach!) and the chance to get away from it all, you’ll
find wedded bliss here. Caneel Bay features extensive water
sports, nature tours, fitness center, eleven tennis courts,
and the new Self Center with yoga, meditation and pilates to
resort life balance.
-
Divi Carina Bay Resort , St. Croix – Tucked away
on this peaceful island’s southern coast, this 200-room
all-inclusive is located on a quiet stretch of beach, serving
up stunning views from its spacious rooms. It’s the only
all-inclusive on the island and also offers its only resort
casino (which introduced gaming to the USVI). The amenities
include all meals and snacks, drinks, guided snorkeling and
kayak tours, a scuba course in the resort pool, mini-golf, and
all non-motorized water sports.

The Divi Carina Bay Beach
Resort is located on the
far eastern coast of St Croix, just
20 miles from the airport.
-
Chenay Bay Beach Resort , St. Croix – If a
romantic private cottage is more your style, Chenay Bay has 50
to offer on the lovely East End, garden or ocean views, all
air-conditioned with kitchenettes and front porches. A great
way to start out together with a home of your own! There’s a
wide array of water sport and free snorkeling gear, which is
perfect given the beach’s calm shallow waters and ideal
snorkeling conditions.
-
Renaissance Carambola Beach Resort & Spa --
Situated on the beach at the foot of the mountains, this is
one of the largest hotels in St. Croix. A bit isolated on the
North Shore, a car is recommended if you want to get around
and explore the island beyond your tranquil beachfront. It’s
about 30 minutes from Christiansted, St. Croix’s capital.
Lovely Danish designed accommodations, each with its own patio
or balcony, are rather upscale, and you can’t beat the
beach. It’s also close to the 18-hole Robert Trent Jones
golf course right next-door.
-
The Buccaneer – Last but far from the least,
this five-star showstopper tops the list in class and style,
and ranks among the best resorts in all of the Caribbean. The
Buccaneer, one of the most historic hotels, was founded in the
17th century and has been family-run for generations. But don’t
let its long history fool you – this premier destination
goes beyond a mere hotel and is certainly not stuck in the
past. Its 340 self-contained acres, just minutes from the
capital of St. Croix, sit directly on the ocean with three
perfect secluded beaches, 18 holes of golf, 8 tennis courts,
spa and three restaurants. The Buccaneer boasts all the modern
amenities one could ask for with timeless elegance and grace.
